When a symbol is not supported, it displays as a box.
Many of the symbols added from Outlook will display on the appointment in OWA (in black and white) and as colorful emoji on smartphones, as seen in this screenshot showing the appointments in Outlook desktop, Outlook app on the iPhone, and in Outlook on the web (OWA). (To add symbols to appointments in Outlook on the web, use copy and paste.) If you want to add symbols to your appointment subjects in Outlook, you can type the character's shortcut code in the subject line or copy symbols from the Symbol dialog and paste them in the subject line. Outlook desktop and Outlook iOS app won't display these charms and editing the appointment in Outlook won't remove the charm.
